Cartoon is indeed a wonderful thing. Once mostly considered as the territory of a kids’ audience only, the world of cartoon universe underwent a lot of variations over the years. And it was not long before cartoons started to attract the adult audience along with children.  However the once popular cartoons are getting replaced by animations and newer versions. But no matter how less glittery the cartoons of nineties may appear, they are masterpieces of their own. The following are some of the best ever cartoons of all time. 


Fred Flintstone


“Yabadabadoooo” was one of the most satisfying things a kid could say back then. Fred from the Flintstones was everyone’s favorite character from the show. Flintstones is a show about a family from the Stone Age and their neighbours. Fred and his wife Wilma live next to Fred’s best friend, Barney Rubble and Betty Rubble. The show is about them and their adventures but in a complete different era altogether! An era of dinosaurs! This was one show that can be called as a ‘family’ show. Kids loved Fred and his energy and even after decades of it being stopped, families love to watch an episode of the Flintstones whenever there is a re-run.

Dexter's Laboratory 

 
Dexter is a kid who loves Science and has a command over the subject which helps him overcome the problems he faces. He has his own laboratory which he supervises when he is at home and he carries out various experiments in there. He has a sister, Dee Dee who often troubles him while he is busy working and causes problems. His parents have no clue about him being his master wonder kid. His main rival is this other guy from school called “Mandark” who has evil plans in store for him. Dexter, with his powerful knowledge about Science and help from Dee Dee, outsmarts Mandark and wins at the end of day. Kids of the age of 8+ always dream about doing cool things like Dexter does in the lab.


Goku – Dragon Ball Z

Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. The series follows   the adventures of Son Goku who, along with his companions, defend the Earth and other fictional planets against various supervillains. This Japanese character was a rage among the kids when it started airing in English. Dragon Ball Z is one unique anime that involves character fight each other for the balls which has magical powers about them. Goku is the main character of the series that possesses super human powers and practices martial arts regularly so that he can get one up over his foe. Bulma meets Goku and introduces him to the legend of Dragon Balls and that starts Goku’s journey of growing up and protect the planet Earth from the bad guys. Goku is an immensely popular character and it was his introduction to the English speaking kids that bought the culture of watching Japanese and other Asian origin anime.


SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron

‘T Bone’ and ‘Razor’ are the Swat Kats who are on a mission to fight the injustice that goes around the city mainly caused by the main criminal, Dark Kat. Swat Kats is unique and very popular among the children who lose watching cartoon that involves fighting the bad guys. T-Bone and Razor travel around in their plane called the Turbokat which is mighty powerful and fully equipped with different missiles. T-bone drives it around and Razor often executes the attack on the bad guys that are in Dark Kat’s team.


Mickey Mouse

Mickey Mouse has to be the most famous cartoon character ever. Created by Walt Disney, he is a happy go lucky mouse who wears a red shirt, yellow shoes and has huge ears and smile on his face. Mickey has a girlfriend, Minnie Mouse and couple of friends, namely Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy. He also has a rival in the like of Pete. Mickey is a huge favourite among children and you will see character dressed as him in many birthday parties and exhibitions around the world. The character became so famous that it was selected as the logo for Walt Disney’s pictures. Mickey has his own theme park and cruise rides which kids love to visit during their vacations.

Popeye – Popeye the Sailor Man

Popeye is a huge hit among boys as this normal guy tries to win his love Olive Oyl but only to see Bluto desperately stopping him from doing so, ever time. Popeye is a versatile guy who is good at many things such as cutting boards, building his house, has a solution to every problem! He always has a pipe which he smokes when he is in deep thoughts and has normal built compared to Bluto who is huge, but, when he is in times of trouble – he takes out his Spinach box and eats it, making him the strongest person on planet! Children love it when he wins, their mothers use Popeye as bait when they want their children to eat healthy Spinach.

Bugs Bunny

“What’s up, doc?” is one of the most recognisable lines of cartoon world. Bugs Bunny immediately became a popular character from the Looney Tunes and is still a sensation among the kids. Bugs Bunny is a grey rabbit who loves eating carrots and tricking others, mainly by doing some outrageous things. Porky Pig and Daffy the duck are his friends and he’d even try and get one over them by tricking them. Bugs Bunny thinks that he can outsmart anyone who tries to trouble him and he often finds him on the winning end. Kids love the things he does and you will often find a Bugs Bunny stuffed toy in a kid’s room.


Captain Planet and the Planeteers

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American animated environmentalist television program. The series was broadcast on TBS from September 15, 1990 to December 5, 1992. A sequel series, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, was produced by Hanna-Barbera and Turner Program Services, and was broadcast from September 11, 1993 to May 11, 1996.  The cartoon revolves round Gaia. Gaia assembles a modern-day team of "Planeteers" from several nations. When the modern-day Planeteers combine their powers to summon the elemental warrior, this incarnation takes on the appearance of a superhero, who takes on the superhero-like name of "Captain Planet." Captain Planet displays a wry sense of humour and often uses puns while taunting the show's cast of villains. His only weakness is that when he came into contact with sources of pollution.


Woody Woodpecker

Woody Woodpecker cartoons were first broadcast on television in 1957. The inhabitants of the forest that Woody Woodpecker (Mel Blanc) lives in have started spreading the word that Woody is crazy, due to all of his screwball antics. After telling him (and many others) this several times, Woody also begins to question his sanity. So he goes to a psychiatrist, a fox named Dr.Horace N. Buggy who has a Scottish accent (Blanc), only to find that the doctor may be more cracked than the woodpecker himself. Woody Woodpecker and friends are also icons at the Universal Studios Theme Parks worldwide, as well as the Port Aventura Park in Salou, Spain (they were originally brought to the park by Universal Studios, and remain there today despite Universal no longer having a financial stake in the park).


Jungle Book Shonen Mowgli

Mowgli is a fictional character and the protagonist of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book stories. He is a feral child from Pench area in Central India who originally appeared in Rudyard Kipling's short story "In the (collected in Many Inventions, 1893) and then went on to become the most prominent and memorable character in his fantasies The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book (1894–1895), which also featured stories about other characters. The protagonist of the series, he is still a young boy when he becomes lost in the forest of Seeonee in British India. He lost his biological parents when they went out searching for him. The Wolves adopt him as a son and raise him as a wolf. Mowgli appears to be somewhere between the ages of 6 and 10 during the course of the show, though the first episode shows him as a toddler. He's an adventurous, fun-loving, outgoing boy. But he also goes through a sort of identity crisis, struggling to figure out just what he really is and where he really belongs.
 
The Jetsons

An American animated sitcom produced by Hanna-Barbera. It was Hanna-Barbera’s Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones. While the Flintstones live in a world with machines powered by birds and dinosaurs, the Jetsons live in the year 2062 in a futuristic utopia of elaborate robotic contraptions, aliens, holograms, and whimsical inventions. The Jetsons are a family residing in Orbit City in the year 2062. The city's architecture is rendered in the Googie style, and all homes and businesses are built high above the ground on adjustable columns. George Jetson lives with his family in the Skypad Apartments: his wife Jane is a homemaker, their teenage daughter Judy attends Orbit High School, and their son Elroy attends Little Dipper School. Housekeeping is seen to be done by a robot maid, Rosie. The family has a dog named Astro, which talks with an initial consonant mutation in which every word begins with an "R", as it speaks with a growl. George Jetson's workweek is typical of his era: an hour a day, two days a week. His boss is Cosmo Spacely, the diminutive yet bombastic owner of Spacely Space Sprockets. Spacely has a competitor, Mr.Cogswell, owner of the rival company Cogswell Cogs (sometimes known as Cogswell's Cosmic Cogs). Jetson commutes to work in an aerocar that resembles a flying saucer with a transparent bubble top. Daily life is leisurely, assisted by numerous labor-saving devices, which occasionally break down with humorous results. Despite this, everyone complains of exhausting hard labour and difficulties living with the remaining inconveniences.
